Conversion guide

From ICAO CPL(A) to EASA CPL(A)

Minimum requirements

  1. Holder of a valid ICAO CPL / IR / MEP license;
  2. Holder of a valid ICAO Class I medical certificate
  3. Flight time
    1. Minimum of 200 hrs flight time, of which
      • 1.1 100 hrs PIC which includes both:
        • 1.1.1 50 hrs of cross-country flight as PIC
          • 1.1.1.1 one of at least 300nm with two full stop landings at two aerodromes different from the aerodrome of departure;
        • 1.1.2 ≥ 55 hrs instrument flight time, of which up to 40 hrs in FNPT II

Steps

  • Entry requirements

    ICAO CPL + ICAO Class 1 Medical + Flight time

  • Choose an EASA country for your license

    Pick an efficient Aviation Authority which shall be the state of issue of your final EASA license. Check the FAQ section

  • EASA Medical Class 1

    Obtain Class 1 Medical Initial with the Aviation Authority chosen in the previous step

  • Choose a country for EASA Theory

    Pick an efficient EASA Aviation Authority to take your exams with. It can be different from the one where the medical was taken. Check the FAQ section

  • Chose an ATO for Theory

    Chose a referenced Aviation Training organization/school (ATO) to start your theory that can provide exams for the country of choice. Check the FAQ

  • Area 100 KSA Training

    Before completing the last theoretical exam. Only required if you are on the new syllabus - 2021 onwards.

  • Study time

    Depends on committed time but estimate for 1 year (study + 14 exams). Exams can be grouped into up to 6 total sittings within 18 months of the first sitting.

  • PBN Training

    Pick a provider for the Performance Based Navigation Training

  • UPRT Training

    Pick a provider for the Upset Prevention and Recovery Training

  • Pick a practical conversion provider

    Choose a provider for your Licence Skill Test (LST)

  • Submit documentation to Aviation Authority

    Submit the theory results to state of issue authority and request the conversion provider to do the same. Your license will be issued and posted to you.

  • MCC

    APS MCC or MCC/JOC Training

  • Perform an English Proficiency Test

    Pick a provider for the English Language Proficiency (ELP) Test. A minimum score of level 4 out of 6 is required.
